The University of Zielona Góra is the biggest public academic institution in the Lubuskie province. Even though UZ is relatively young, Zielona Góra’s academic traditions date back to as far as the previous century. They began in 1965, when the Engineering College, transformed then into the Technical University of Zielona Góra, was established. In 1971, in turn, the Teacher-Training College was founded and in 1973 became the Tadeusz Kotarbiński Pedagogical College. The University of Zielona Góra was formed on 1st September 2001 by the merger of the schools in question. Additionally, on 1st September 2017 the Public Training College in Sulechów was incorporated into UZ.
Circa 10000 people study here. Our university offers first-cycle (a bachelor’s degree) and second-cycle (a master’s degree) study programmes, both full-time and part-time ones, graduate programmes in doctoral schools, and postgraduate programmes.
Currently, our university consists of 7 faculties:
1. Faculty of Arts,
2. Faculty of Engineering and Technical Sciences,
3. Faculty of Law and Economics,
4. Humanities,
5. Faculty of Legal and Economic Sciences,
6. Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (the Medical College),
7. Faculty of Social Sciences,
There are also 29 institutes which cooperate with the faculties. At the faculties, students can choose from over 80 fields of study and numerous specialities related to: humanities, social sciences, economics, natural sciences, medicine and health, technical and exact sciences, and arts. Thus, because of its broad scope of scientific disciplines on offer, the University of Zielona Góra belongs to the elite group of classical universities.
The University is authorised to confer a postdoctoral degree and a doctoral degree in 23 disciplines. Graduate studies are offered in 16 disciplines in UZ's two doctoral schools: the Doctoral School of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Doctoral School of Exact and Technical Sciences.
The dream of a globally acclaimed institution promoted Mr. Wojciech Strzyżewski to set up ZGU. Mr. Wojciech Strzyżewski visited many countries of the world and observed the way the universities of those countries work. He made up his mind to establish such an institution which will be the torch bearer of knowledge and wisdom. In spite of his busy schedule, he spent a lot of time to actualize his dream into reality. Being the chairman of Reliance industrial park, he has also associated himself with a variety of humanitarian works. In accordance with the slogan, 'Digital Poland', Mr Wojciech Strzyżewski wants to make the students go digital by setting up a college which excels in business and technology.
ZGU undertakes to build up a reputation as a rural level low cost digital education in Business and Technology with innovative research and development as a private institution.
The mission of ZGU is to contribute, through collaborative research and education to efforts to create a Digital Poland. ZGU pays due attention to the spread of technological knowledge everywhere.
ZGU aspires to be a world class teaching and capacity development institution that addresses the
needs of present and future generation. It endeavors to provide global leadership on the aspects
of business and technology. ZGU also seeks to become a widely recognized international graduate
